FOREWORD BY SIR ALEX FERGUSON
The inside story of a football transformation that changed a club – and a country – for ever.
When Graeme Souness answered an unexpected call in 1986, he left Italy's Sampdoria to rebuild a Rangers side in decline. What followed was five years of upheaval, controversy and brilliance: the Souness Revolution.
In this candid, unflinching memoir – the first time Souness has fully lifted the lid on the key decisions, dressing-room battles and defining moments of that era – he reveals how he reshaped Ibrox. From the explosive signing of Mo Johnston, hijacked from Celtic and breaking a long-standing, unwritten policy against signing Catholic players, to the arrival of English stars like Terry Butcher and Chris Woods, and a tactical shift towards higher tempo and modern professionalism, Souness dragged Rangers into a new age. Amid fierce Old Firm clashes, the club surged back to dominance, winning four League titles and four League Cups in just five seasons.
But this is more than a tale of trophies. A Scotland international and one of the most influential figures in British football, Souness also reflects on the wider game – offering sharp, still-relevant insights into leadership, dressing-room culture and how football has evolved. He opens up about the pressure, the controversies – including his infamous red card on his managerial debut – touchline bans and media wars, and the personal cost of leading one of the sport’s most demanding institutions. Alongside the triumphs are regrets, missteps and hard-earned lessons that shaped the man behind the manager.
Explosive, insightful and deeply human, My Rangers is the inside account of one of the most dramatic eras in football – where every decision made headlines, and there was never a dull moment.
