Weymouth and Portland

Om boken

This pictorial history traces some of the events and developments that have taken place in Weymouth and neighbouring Portland over the last century. This book commemorates the fiftieth anniversary of the death of professional photographer Edwin H. Seward, whose career spanned the development of motor transport and aeroplanes, paid holidays and two world wars. Illustrated with over 220 pictures, this volume highlights many of the important events that have occurred around this area, including Royal visits, commemoration ceremonies and shipwrecks.

Aspects of everyday life are also featured, from schools and churches, streets and shops, to changing modes of transportation, fashion and leisure pursuits. Accompanied by detailed and informative text, this book is a valuable record which will reawaken nostalgic memories for some, while offering a unique glimpse of Dorset’s proud heritage for others.
