In this definitive history of New Girl, entertainment reporter Thea Glassman lifts the curtain on one of the most beloved comedies of the 2010s, going inside the writers’ room and onto the set with exclusive interviews from the show’s creator, cast, writers, directors and crew. In 2020, two years after the series ended, New Girl officially became one of the most streamed shows on Netflix, accomplishing what many shows strive for and so few are able to do: It had become a certified comfort rewatch, which fans welcomed into their homes during the good times, bad times, mundane moments, and everything in between. New Girl took the classic hangout show format and spun it in a far weirder, more subversive direction while still hitting that familiar Friends-esque sweet spot—this time for millennials and Gen Z. Sitcom rules were broken, the pursuit for the perfect joke was relentless, and the cast was invited to help mould their characters, working alongside the writers to bring unexpected comedy gems to life. Drawing on exclusive interviews with creator Liz Meriwether and stars Zooey Deschanel, Jake Johnson, Max Greenfield, Lamorne Morris, Hannah Simone, and more, Who’s That Girl finally tells the full story of New Girl, from its early roots on a New York street to its lasting streaming legacy in our hearts and homes today. A love letter to the comfort show of all comfort shows and filled with brand-new hilarious and heartwarming behind-the-scenes stories, Thea Glassman’s Who’s That Girl is a must-have for every New Girl fan.
